THE BENEFITS OF A CORPORATE HEALTH PROGRAM IN YOUR ORGANISATION

In Australia, the popular understanding is that we have a Health care system, however when we analyse the dynamics of our health care system, we see that we are not managing health at all.  We are simply managing disease.

The facts to not lie, Australians are growing old and growing chronically ill.  Health is simply a lens into the future of human performance.  In Australia, unhealthy workers are 9 times more likely to have sick days than unhealthy workers.  Smart employers know that making improvements gives them a competitive advantage.  A 2-3% drop in Hydration levels can lead to a 20% drop in performance.

Presenteeism

Whilst it has been proven that sick workers and unhealthy workers are turning up to work and are costing the Australian Economy nearly 4 times more than absentee workers.  Presenteeism is the effect of employee ill-health on work performance.  Presenteeism also measures the productivity lost as a result of employees working when they are ill or injured.

Presenteeism caused a 2.5% loss in productivity a year – or 6 working days – for each worker, this just simply highlights the impact of poor employee health on business performance.  Investing in your staff’s health will inevitably flow through to the bottom line.

The hidden costs of Presenteeism are considerably higher than absenteeism, by a factor of 7-10 times.  This provides opportunities for employee health enhancement initiatives to minimise work impairment due to preventable health conditions.

 

In a recent Health and performance research study that was conducted over 12 months, the intervention group was exposed to a number of corporate health concepts including stress management, physical awareness and activity and rest and recovery whilst the control population simply adhered to their regular lifestyle.  The investment for this program equated to $380 / Employee for an annual program.

 

Some of the results are as follows:

  • There was an 8.8% improvement in work performance seen within the participants of the intervention group.
  • There was a reduction in absence from work with the intervention group coupled with an increase in absenteeism in the control group.
  • A conservative estimate of business benefits derived from the improvements in health status and work performance indicate a likely annual return on Investment (ROI) form such a program to be $3.73 for every $1 spent.

  • Employees with a poor overall health status have up to 9 times greater workplace sickness absence compared to the most health workers

RESULTS

  • When an employee improves their health status by just one health risk e.g. improved nutrition, they will increase productivity on the job by 9% and reduce absenteeism by 2%.
  • Health and productivity management programs have generated Return in investment (ROI) that range anywhere between $1.49 and $13 in reduced absence and improved productivity per dollar spent on programs

PROCCESS

The ongoing 12 month Health and wellbeing program is aimed primarily at the organisation as a whole, to give employees greater ownership of their personal health and productivity.  This program is inclusive for all staff members at Kordamentha.

The program includes the following:

  1. Staff Health Risk assessment  - evaluation on each participants health and wellness
  2. Step out – a program designed to increase physical activity
  3. Hydration and Healthy Eating Strategies – to improve alertness and productivity
  4. Strength and Resilience – improving the ability to manage personal stress

PROGRAM OUTLINE

1. Corporate seminars delivered as “lunch & learn” workshops

These presentations will focus on the following parameters of health and wellness including:

  • Physical Activity
  • Nutrition and healthy eating
  • Stress Management
  • Performance & Productivity 
  • Sleep and fatigue
  • Alcohol and other drugs
  • Smoking cessation
  • Posture and back care
  • Motivation & Goal setting 
  • Personality types
  • Sleep, rest and fatigue
  • Blockage Busters
  • Performance & Goal Setting
  • Enhancing energy

The presentations are typically held over a lunch break, and participants will be able to workshop a number of topics that will be relevant to their personal wellness.


2. Corporate Group Fitness Class

The Corporate Group Fitness Class will be constantly, evaluated to cater for all those that have a desire to try new and exciting activities.  Some of our most popular group sessions have included the following:

  • Boxing Class
  • Team based activity
  • Group Circuit
  • Stretching and relaxation class
  • Social Saturdays (encouraging outdoor activity)

3. Personal Health Screening and evaluation

These sessions will be targeted at ALL staff and provide an overhaul health screening appraisal.  General health & wellness checks will help determine:

  • Blood Pressure
  • Cholesterol Check
  • Body composition analysis via the Inbody Scan
  • Basic nutrition analysis
  • Posture analysis
  • Exercise and Wellness Appraisal

In addition to this, those that are undertaking the fitness program component will have to opportunity to include additional Inbody assessment, measurements, photos (optional), discussion on nutrition and realistic & attainable goals.  These sessions are critical to assess each participant and allow them opportunity to see the change they can make.

In addition to this, each person will be assessed using the InBody composition analyser which will provide some very useful feedback on each person’s overall wellness.

Each team member will receive a detailed report that provides them with a snapshot of their personal health and wellness at the start of the program, and at the conclusion of the program.


4. Personal Health and fitness quarterly planning

Having a regular check in with a Health and Wellness professional, will keep each person on track with their personal fitness.  This session will include some of the following:

  • Regular activity
  • Goal setting for fitness and wellness
  • Understanding barriers to health and fitness
  • Incorporating incidental exercise into each persons day

Timeline

This ongoing program duration is 12 months, and therefore allows each individuals personal health and wellbeing to be analysed, improved and measured. 

It is suggested that the corporate health and wellness program commence a full 12 month program.  This will also provide accurate assessment of performance and Return on Investment (ROI) over the financial year.
